Finisterre’s Helping Women Surf Filmmakers Fund Their Next Film
Calling all creatives! The Women of the Sea Filmmaker Fund, presented by English surf brand Finisterre in partnership with the London Surf/Film Festival, provides grants to support women surf filmmakers. Submissions are now open through April 4th.
This initiative invites women filmmakers, established to aspiring, to submit projects that center on women and their connection to the ocean. The fund is specifically looking for films that shed light on women who are reshaping surf culture or creating new spaces in the lineup.
To apply, visit the London Surf Film Festival, and fill out the form. Filmmakers are required to provide a title, general synopsis, and any supporting material available. The selected winners will receive £10,000 (approximately $13,000 USD) to fund film production, and completed films will premiere at the 2025 London Surf/Film Festival in 2025.
Eligibility is limited to filmmakers based in the UK, Ireland, the US, and Canada.

Past Winners
2024 recipient, Alice Ward, created Salt, her film exploring the profound impact that salt and the ocean have had on her life as a filmmaker, surfer, and someone living with cystic fibrosis. The film debuted at the 2024 London Film/ Surf Festival, winning the accolade of Best International Short.
Leah Rustomie, the 2023 fund recipient, created Granny Grommets, a joyful film featuring a group of senior women who defy expectations of aging by celebrating their golden years riding waves.
